Rental Terms
All vehicle rentals come with a comprehensive Rental Agreement, which you will receive upon booking confirmation or at the time of vehicle collection. This document outlines the terms, conditions, insurance information, applicable charges, and your responsibilities for the rental. In case of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will prevail.
Eligibility Criteria
Vehicle Rental Requirements
- To hire a vehicle, you must be at least 21 years old, although age restrictions may differ based on the type of vehicle, with possible extra fees for drivers younger than 25. You need to possess a valid driving licence suitable for the vehicle category, held for the duration outlined in the Rental Agreement. Valid identification and proof of your current address are required, along with payment information and a security deposit. Additional conditions may be specified in the Rental Agreement.
Booking and Payment Process
- Reservations can be made via our website, over the phone, or directly at our Pontefract office. A deposit may be necessary to confirm your booking. The total payment, along with a security deposit, is generally required upon vehicle pickup. All prices are listed in British Pounds (£) and include VAT where applicable. We accept major credit and debit cards, processed securely through trusted payment providers.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- At the time of collection in Pontefract, please conduct a thorough inspection of the vehicle and promptly report any pre-existing damage. A vehicle condition report will be created and signed by both parties. It is important to return the vehicle in the same condition as when it was collected, taking into account normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and may result in charges. The vehicle should be returned with the same amount of fuel as at collection; otherwise, refueling charges will apply. Late returns may incur additional fees, so please inform us as soon as possible if you anticipate being late. You will be responsible for any parking fines, traffic violations, or charges incurred during your rental, along with an administrative fee.

You may have the option to purchase additional insurance to lower your financial liability. It is important to review these options thoroughly. You will be liable for any damage or loss up to the insurance excess, unless you opt for additional coverage. Any damage resulting from negligence, misuse, or violation of these Terms remains your responsibility, regardless of insurance.
Cancellation and Modifications
Cancellation and amendment policies differ based on the type of booking and the notice period provided. For precise information, please consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Be aware that late cancellations or no-shows could incur additional charges.
7. Restricted Activities
Prohibited Uses of Rental Vehicle
- The vehicle must not be used for illegal activities or purposes. Activities such as racing, off-roading, or any dangerous driving are prohibited. Transporting hazardous materials is not allowed. Sub-letting the vehicle or permitting unauthorized drivers is prohibited. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly forbidden. The vehicle should only be used for its intended purpose and within the specified passenger and weight limits. Additionally, driving outside the agreed geographical boundaries requires prior authorization.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental termination and extra fees.
Liability Limitations
To the fullest extent permitted by English and Welsh law, Car Hire Pontefract is not responsible for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business resulting from your use of our services. Our total liability for any claims will not exceed the rental amount you paid in the prior 12 months. This limitation does not apply to cases of negligence leading to death or personal injury, nor to instances of fraud.
9. Local Legal Framework
These Terms are regulated by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes will fall under the exclusive jurisdiction of the relevant courts.
10. Updates to Terms
We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. Changes take effect immediately once posted on our website. Continued use of our services indicates acceptance of the revised Terms.
